PUNE: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Friday announced that his party would contest maximum number of seats from Maharashtra in
the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Thackeray was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the party office in Narayan Peth. "The process of discussions about the Lok Sabha elections has started and we have sought reports from all constituencies in the state. After this process is completed we will announce our candidates," said Thackeray.
He added that the migration of out-of-state people will not be the poll plank of the MNS. However Thackeray said that whatever agitations the MNS had launched in recent times were appropriate. "What should one do if submitting memorandums and demands are not working?" asked Thackeray. He claimed that the MNS had not made any demand that was against the law.
He also castigated Maharashtra's DGP A N Roy whose appointment was quashed by the Bombay high court on Thursday. "Along with the ministers who resigned from their posts after the Mumbai attack, Roy should also take responsibility. However, no one has demanded his resignation" said Raj.
He came down heavily on NCP's recent step to induct criminals in the party, saying that the NCP was not setting a good example in politics. Thackeray also criticised the Samajwadi Party for announcing Sanjay Dutt's candidature for the Lok Sabha polls. "Once he is proved guilty, why should any party give him Lok Sabha candidature?"
MNS local leadership had no answer when reporters asked why the party had not taken any stand over the recent incident in which armed men had allegedly prevented people from entering the PMC's tender cell. When Thackeray looked at local leaders for an answer, former MLA Deepak Paigude said that he had been unaware of the issue as he was busy at party training sessions.
